Nickelback shifts to Virgin Music Group for upcoming October album release

The Canadian rock band’s move from BMG to Virgin Music Group marks a strategic roster expansion for the label ahead of their new twelve-track project.

Canadian rock band Nickelback has announced its next studio album, Everything Under The Sun, alongside a significant corporate shift to a new record label. The October 30 release marks the group’s first project under Virgin Music Group, ending their recent tenure with BMG.

This label transition represents a notable roster expansion for Virgin Music Group, which is now positioned to capitalize on the band’s established commercial footprint. Jacqueline Saturn, North American President of the label, emphasized the strategic value of the partnership. She noted that the band has built a remarkable career, calling it an honour to work with an act possessing such an enduring legacy and global impact.

The group previously released 2017’s Feed The Machine and 2022’s Get Rollin’ through BMG. Moving forward, Virgin Music Group will manage this new commercial cycle, with album pre-orders already open to the public. This shift highlights the ongoing competition among major music companies to secure proven, revenue-generating catalogues and active touring acts.

To spearhead the campaign, Nickelback has launched the lead single Rattle The Cage, featuring a guest appearance by Mötley Crüe guitarist John 5. Frontman Chad Kroeger stated that the track was chosen to kick the door open. He cited the live energy the group has been feeding off every night on stage as the driving force behind the single.

Kroeger indicated that the upcoming record is designed to showcase the full range of the group’s capabilities. He explained that the project contains songs that take chances and tracks that remind them why they have been working together for so long. He added that it includes material that hits as hard as anything they have ever done.

The twelve-track lineup features titles such as Chasin’ Famous, Technicolor Steamboat, and Lift Somebody Up, alongside Bones For The Crows and Last Night Was Fun. This release will serve as the first major test of the band’s new corporate partnership. It will demonstrate Virgin Music Group's ability to drive market engagement for a legacy rock act.
