Jockey Hollie Doyle Cleared for Weight-Bearing Recovery Ahead of Major Racing Weekend
Prominent jockey Hollie Doyle has received medical clearance to bear weight following a broken leg, coinciding with significant commercial activity in upcoming European races.
Prominent jockey Hollie Doyle has been cleared to bear weight following surgery to repair a broken leg sustained in a May fall at Bath. The rider met with a specialist in London and will now begin strengthening exercises and physiotherapy at Oaksey House in Lambourn.
This recovery milestone arrives as the European racing sector prepares for a major weekend of fixtures at Newbury and The Curragh. These fixtures represent critical commercial milestones for owners and syndicates aiming to validate their capital deployment in thoroughbred racing.
A prime example is Wathnan Racing, which is backing the William Haggas-trained Earth Shot in the Juddmonte Irish Oaks to justify its recent capital investment. The syndicate views the filly as a strong candidate, despite facing competition from the Epsom winner Thundering On and entries from Aidan O'Brien.
The Newbury card further illustrates the commercial pressures within the industry. Trainers such as Richard Hannon, who has secured three wins in the Weatherbys Super Sprint over the last eight years, are positioning their horses to meet high market expectations.
Archie Watson’s filly Vollering and Brian Meehan’s Oceans Four are among the other contenders aiming to deliver competitive returns for their respective ownership groups. Meanwhile, Roger Varian’s Ride The Thunder is targeted for an overdue success in the Pertemps Handicap.
At The Curragh, the Group 2 Tulfarris Hotel And Golf Resort Sapphire Stakes features George Boughey's contender Rosy Affair and Donnacha O'Brien's Havana Anna, both of whom recently performed well at Royal Ascot. However, Bucanero Fuerte brings the strongest form to the event.
In the Group Two GAIN Railway Stakes, Aidan O'Brien fields both Confucius and Carry The Flag. Jockey Ryan Moore’s choice of Confucius is viewed as a significant indicator, even though Carry The Flag showed strong finishing speed in a recent Listed race at Naas.
Doyle noted that she will continue to put in as much work as possible at Oaksey House. She expressed delight that her recovery is progressing well, even as she provides her expert verdict on the weekend's stellar cards from the sidelines.
