New Glasgow nightlife commission launched to support the city's nighttime industry

A new Glasgow nightlife commission is being launched to support the city's nighttime industry.
The investigation will be headed up by Mike Grieve, who runs one of the city's best-loved venues, Sub Club. He will carry out the commission on behalf of the Scottish Night Time Industries Association. The organisation provides a sounding board for the industry, lobbies for change, and works with Glasgow City Council and other local authorities to boost Scotland's nighttime economy.
Other members of the Glasgow Night Time Commission will include Fiona Ellis from promoter DF Concerts, Stephen McGowan, head of licensing at TLT LLP, and representatives from groups such as Music Venues Trust. Grieve is also expected to serve as a night czar for Glasgow going forward.
The Glasgow Night Time Commission will also be supported by the creation of a new post, Glasgow night-time economy manager. Glasgow City Council will be appointing for the role, and they will serve as a connection between the commission and other stakeholders to ensure recommendations made by the commission are pushed forward.
"Glasgow City Council has put its money firmly where its mouth is in allocating significant budget to appoint a full-time officer and establish the permanent commission to manage the emerging strategy. I have no doubt this resource will prove to be money very well spent for the whole of our city centre, and especially for the vital hospitality, music, arts and entertainment sector which brings so much cultural identity and value to Glasgow."
The creation of the Glasgow Night Time Commission follows the similar work of the London Nightlife Taskforce, which shared proposals to protect and support after-dark economy in a new report earlier this year.
