Palms Trax shares first new single in five years, ‘Soft Trance, Hard Gossip’: Listen

Palms Trax has shared his first new solo single in five years. You can listen to ‘Soft Trance, Hard Gossip’ below.
Landing on fabric Records, the track is taken from an upcoming double-A side EP, ‘Keys To A Painted Garden’, which will arrive in full on 22nd August.
Palms Trax announced the release on Instagram on Wednesday (22nd July), writing: “I actually have a single out today in news I can scarcely believe myself. I once read that John Maus spent five years building his own synthesiser thinking it would give his music a fresh edge only to realise afterwards it sounded exactly the same, and much like that this is a continuation of my ~sentimental dance music for YouTube~ aesthetic the long way round.”
“I always loved the fabric mix series coming of age and admire any institution that survives a monster stint in clubland so it felt like a natural home,” he added. “Looking forward to getting more out with them in the near and not so distant future!”
Built around a melodic synth hook, heavy low end and gradually intensifying percussion, the track delivers a club-focused sound with intricate production details. It sits in contrast to the EP’s title track, which moves towards deeper, jazz-leaning broken beats and IDM textures.
While Palms Trax has taken time away from releasing his own studio material, his Cooking With Palms Trax label has continued to operate. The imprint has featured releases from Theo Kottis, Moving Still and Willow, alongside several acclaimed DJ mixtapes .
The UK artist will also be making a series of festival appearances over the coming months, including Dekmantel (29th July), Dekmantel Selectors and We Out Here (20th August), followed by Onder De Radar (28th August).
