You can flip any YouTube video on an MPC-style sampler
A new free browser-based sampler lets you map YouTube videos onto your keyboard.
Designed to function like an MPC, YPC comprises a 16-pad grid that allows you to play and slice samples using your computer keyboard or a MIDI controller. You can then either randomise or create custom timestamps for each pad, with the sample length spanning 0.1s to 8 seconds. There's also a time-stretching feature.
The brainchild of artist Halfpast , the tool also includes a 64-step sequencer with swing and BPM functions that can be programmed using either step input or real-time recording.
Back in 2022, Pi Songs launched a new browser-based tool called Acid Hit that lets you generate 30 seconds of audio and visuals based on the Roland TB-303, created with Tone.js in partnership with algorithmic visual artist Jeffrey Ventrella.
Meanwhile, Akai, the makers of the original MPC, famously developed with US engineer Robert Linn, recently released a new modern model inspired by the classic late '80s MPCs, the MPC Live III Retro.
