BBC Radio 6 Music is launching a month-long series of shows celebrating Black British music scenes as part of the BBC’s The Music is Black season, named Rave Forever .
Rave Forever will air every Friday through August from 7:AM until 7:PM on 6 Music , tracing the “movements and pioneers that built the UK’s dancefloors” decade-by-decade.
The show will debut next Friday (August 7) looking back to the ‘80s with a focus on the roots of soundsystem culture, the acid house scene, and the birth of 2 tone.
The first show features guests including Nick Grimshaw, who will invite lovers rock pioneer Caroll Thompson, as well as Lauren Laverne, who calls in Norman Jay, to chat about rare groove; Craig Charles will speak to 2 tone legend Neville Staple of The Specials, and Emily Pilbeam who will explore acid house’s origins.
On August 14, Rave Forever will spotlight the “unsung heroes” of the ‘90s and the growth of sounds like jungle, trip hop, soul, and UK R&B with guests including Goldie and Omar.
Stepping into the 2000s on August 21, Rave Forever welcomes the likes of IG Culture and Shy One to talk all things broken beat, while Deb Grant invites DJ Target to put together a garage and grime mix.

Finally, on August 28, the series will conclude with an in-depth look into music scenes of the 2010s, from bassline’s revival to UK funky. Guests include SHERELLE, DJ Q, and Nemone.
Rave Forever comes as part of the BBC’s The Music is Black season in collaboration with an exhibition of the same name at the V&A East Museum , which launched in April.
The series will also feature additional sets from the likes of Smokin Jo, Tim Reaper, Karen Nyame KG, Craig Charles and more throughout.
