Man arrested after one person killed and five injured in shooting in Swiss rave shooting
A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting at a Aarau techno event on 30th August
Police have arrested a 43-year-old man following a fatal shooting at a rave in Aarau, outside Zurich, on Sunday, 30th August.
The Aarau cantonal police made the arrest in the early hours of 31st August following a near 24-hour manhunt. Police believe one person opened fire at the techno event at an Aarau horse-racing track at 2:30 AM local time, according to earlier BBC reporting.
22-year-old Italian woman Maria Spinelli was killed in the shooting, while five others were injured – four men and one woman, aged between 24 to 27, BBC News reports. Their injuries range from minor to severe.
Event organisers Aarauer Rave shared a statement to Instagram Stories expressing "shock" and sadness. "The vicious attack on the guests of the Aarauer Rave has broken our hearts", a translation of the organisers' statement reads, via Resident Advisor . "A rave should always be a place of joy and love. Never a place where people are killed, injured, and left in fear."
Organisers continued: "Our thoughts are with the victims and their families and friends. We offer our sincere condolences. Our thanks go to the police and emergency services. As organizers, we will do everything in our power to support the police in their work."
