This (more gray than) "black tower" is part of a whole series of picturesque viewpoints constructed in and around the small town Mödling commissioned by Johann I., Prince of Liechtenstein. It was built in 1809 and 1810 according to the plans of the architect Joseph Hardtmuth. It was most likely originally intended as an observation tower and was later also used as a forester’s residence. From here you can see over Mödling and the Vienna Basin.
