Wrexham sign Crystal Palace defender Danny Imray on four-year deal

Wrexham sign Crystal Palace defender Danny Imray on four-year deal

Wrexham have secured their first summer signing in defender Danny Imray, signaling the club’s continued strategic investment as they pursue Premier League promotion and leverage their growing global profile.

Wrexham have completed the signing of Crystal Palace defender Danny Imray on a four-year contract. The 23-year-old versatile full-back becomes the Championship club’s first acquisition of the summer transfer window.

The move underscores the Welsh organization’s sustained ambition to reach the Premier League. Imray cited the club’s off-pitch development and community focus as key factors in his decision to join the Red Dragons.

"I've watched Welcome to Wrexham and it's not just a football club that wants to do well on the pitch, but one that wants to do well off the pitch too," Imray said. He noted that the club's upward trajectory and top-flight aspirations made the project highly exciting.

Imray has yet to make a senior appearance for Crystal Palace but has accumulated substantial first-team experience through loans. After an initial loan back to Chelmsford City in 2021, he made 43 appearances for Bromley in the 2024-25 season, scoring two goals.

He spent the first half of the 2025-26 campaign at League One’s Blackpool before moving to Championship side West Bromwich Albion in January. During his time at West Brom, he featured 17 times, including in a 2-2 draw against Wrexham at The Hawthorns in April.

Manager Phil Parkinson welcomed the addition, highlighting Imray’s progression from non-league football to the Premier League environment. The signing addresses a specific need for wing-back depth following Issa Kabore’s return to Manchester City after a loan spell last term.

Parkinson is not planning wholesale changes to the squad that secured automatic promotion from League One last year with 13 new signings. However, the club remains active in the market, identifying a goalkeeper, centre-back, central midfielder, and forward as potential targets.

The manager acknowledged that recruitment has taken longer than expected this summer. He attributed part of the delay to Premier League clubs retaining younger players early in pre-season due to senior squad members being away on World Cup duty.

Imray has already linked up with the squad in the United States ahead of their pre-season fixture against Liverpool in New York. The team recently recorded a 3-2 pre-season victory over Premier League side Leeds United in Florida, demonstrating competitive readiness as the new campaign approaches.
