UK manufacturer Hope Technology releases high-stack bicycle stem
The Barnoldswick-based engineering firm has introduced a new precision-machined component aimed at professional and enthusiast mountain bikers, reinforcing its domestic manufacturing footprint in the premium cycling market.
Hope Technology has launched a new high-stack bicycle stem designed for single-crown forks, manufactured entirely at its facility in Barnoldswick, England. The component features a 20 mm reach and a 35 mm stack, retailing at £115.00, €144.50, or $159.40 USD excluding tax.
This release targets riders seeking a more stable and neutral riding position. By shifting weight away from the arms, the design aims to help reduce arm pump and fatigue.
The stem is explicitly approved for reverse orientation, a setup popularized by professional riders such as Reece Wilson and his AON Racing teammates to achieve a loss in reach. In a traditional forward orientation, the 35 mm stack significantly alters standard bike geometry.
For a bicycle with a 64-degree head tube angle, the 35 mm stack alone creates a 15.34 mm loss in reach. Replacing a standard 35 mm zero-stack stem with this new 20 mm model positions the rider’s hands approximately 30 mm closer to their feet horizontally.
Constructed from a solid billet of 2014 T6 aluminium, the component is CNC-machined for precision. Hope has engineered the face plate to be 62 mm across, making it 5 mm wider than the brand’s longer TR stems to enhance overall strength and stiffness.
The product will be offered in both 31.8 mm and 35 mm handlebar clamp diameters. Claimed weights are 200 grams for the 31.8 mm version and 206.5 grams for the 35 mm variant.
Consumers can choose from seven available colourways, including Black, Silver, Smoke, Blue, Red, Purple, and Orange. The launch underscores Hope Technology’s strategy of leveraging domestic engineering capabilities to compete in the premium global sports equipment sector.
By pricing the component at €144.50 in the Eurozone, the company positions itself competitively against international rivals. This move allows the firm to maintain its established reputation for durability while addressing niche, high-performance demands across European markets.
