Ibiza nightlife brand Homies expands globally to export local club culture
After a decade of transforming underground DIY gatherings into an established events brand, Ibiza’s Homies is expanding internationally, signaling a shift in the island’s nightlife economy from importing global acts to exporting homegrown cultural concepts.
Ibiza’s Homies, a nightlife brand known for its unconventional clubbing concepts, is expanding its events to international markets including Brazil, Milan, and Berlin. The expansion marks a decade since the brand's inception and signals a strategic shift in how the island's local talent monetizes its cultural output.
Co-founder Christian Len, who manages communications and project management, notes that the operation began as a legally and economically unsustainable model. The founders initially hosted small gatherings in private penthouses and restaurants, selling tickets and alcohol without formal licensing for crowds of just 50 or 60 people.
The brand differentiated itself by subverting traditional clubbing paradigms with pyjama dress codes, beds on the dancefloor, and DJs performing in bathtubs. “We just wanted to put strange elements in, elements that really cut or break reality,” Len says, noting the goal was to discourage the showing off typical of mainstream nightlife.
As the brand grew, the founders had to transition from a spontaneous playground to a structured business. Len states they now handle operations in a more conscious way, taking on greater responsibilities as the concept scales beyond its original long-term venue at the Pikes hotel.
This professionalization aligns with a broader push to change Ibiza’s economic reliance on imported entertainment. Len, who also serves as president of the Association of DJs of Ibiza, argues the island currently “imports big DJs” while underutilizing its own deep pool of experienced local resident talent.
By taking the Homies model abroad, the founders aim to export the island's specific sound and ethics rather than just consuming global trends. The international rollout relies on delivering their signature intimate atmosphere through music and energy, proving the concept can travel without its original physical decorations.
The trio of founders, which includes graphic artist Camilo Miranda and label manager Luca Averna, built the brand organically. They now view their core product not as a specific physical venue, but as a scalable methodology for turning traditional clubs into intimate, community-focused environments.
