Bae Bae debuts on Planet Mu with ‘Gauze’ EP, shares ‘still believe’: Listen
The EP was recorded in response to the ongoing crisis in Gaza, using a mix of her own productions and real-world recordings from Palestine
Bae Bae has announced a new EP, ‘gauze’, on Planet Mu. Listen to the first single, ‘Still Believe’, below.
The LA-based DJ and producer's debut EP for the legendary UK label is described in press material as “a call to fight globally to bring an end to the occupation of Palestine”. The title, ‘gauze’, refers to the material of the same name, which is said to have originated in Gaza.
The EP incorporates real-world recordings from Gaza, including a call to prayer taken in a bombed-out mosque. It also features documentary audio recorded in a hospital, as well as the voice of Palestinian writer and activist Ghassan Kanafani, who was later assassinated.
Musically, the release centres on percussion, drawing on garage, footwork and jungle influences.
Last year, Planet Mu celebrated its 30th anniversary with a compilation, ‘ Planet Mu 30 ’, and a special party at London’s Corsica Studios .
