Mickey Mann, legendary sound engineer who worked with Orbital, Basement Jaxx and Aphex Twin, dies, fundraiser launched
The Aberdeen-born engineer also worked as a manager for The Shamen
Mickey Mann, the legendary Scottish sound engineer and producer known for his work with artists including Orbital, Basement Jaxx, andAphex Twin, has died.
According to a post on GoFundMe , Mann passed away a week before his 65th birthday. The Press and Journal reports that Mann suffered a heart attack on 3rd June, and later died in hospital on 9th June. A fundraiser has been launched to "give him the goodbye he deserves".
Born in June 1960 in Aberdeen, Mann joined The Shamen on tour in 1985 after meeting the duo of Colin Angus and Will Sinnott at the city's Royal Cornhill Hospital, where all three of them were working.
He ended up becoming The Shamen's manager and booked Orbital as a support act, as Mann's sister Jane Mann told The Press and Journal earlier this month.
He later became a sound engineer, working with the likes of Basement Jaxx, Aphex Twin, Moby, Rachid Taha, System 7, Megadog, Drum Club, Meat Beat Manifesto, Ultramarine, Curve and many more.
Mann also fronted the dark electronic outfit Pressure of Speech, established in 1993.
The fundraiser, which at the time of writing has raised 95% of its £10,00 target, has been launched to pay for Mann's funeral and help with the costs of bringing his family to London, where he was based.
