Solid Grooves and Miami's Club Space call for Venezuela earthquake relief donations
Both are organising donation efforts following the earthquakes, which have killed nearly 1,500 people at the time of writing
Miami venue Club Space and UK label Solid Grooves have announced relief efforts to aid the victims of the recent earthquakes in Venezuela.
Two earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, hit densely populated areas of the country on Wednesday 24th July, with La Guaira and the capital Caracas among the worst affected. At least 1,450 people have been killed and more than 3,150 injured, while over 46,600 have been reported missing. Recovery efforts remain in their early stages.
Solid Grooves residents Miguelle & Tons, who hail from the country, will donate their performance fee from the label’s upcoming party at DC-10 in Ibiza to organisations working on the ground in Venezuela. Solid Grooves and DC-10 will also be donating an additional share of proceeds from their next event on 2nd July.
Announcing the donation efforts on Instagram , Solid Grooves shared: “This is deeply personal to us, with Miguelle & Tons and members of our extended Solid Grooves family calling Venezuela home and having extremely close ties to the country. Our thoughts are with everyone affected.”
The Solid Grooves team have also updated their website with more information on the humanitarian response, and share a list of the organisations they are supporting, in a bid to encourage others to contribute to relief efforts.
Additionally, Club Space has said it will match donations made to the Global Empowerment Network in the venue’s name. Donation add-ons have been introduced via DICE for all shows this weekend and next to encourage further support, while a general donation page has also been launched for those not attending upcoming events.
“We wish all the people in Venezuela safety and peace, and will try to do our part here in Miami,” Club Space wrote on Instagram .
