Play inspired by New York’s underground rave scene to premiere at Edinburgh Fringe
The Late Utopians will debut at the Underbelly venue on 5th August
A play inspired by New York's underground rave scene is set to premiere at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.
Written and directed by Alfie Jones, The Late Utopians focuses on lead character Emma (played by actor Lilly Walker), a journalist who becomes immersed in the local nightlife scene.
A synopsis of the play reads: “Set against the backdrop of an unravelling America, rave culture and heartbreak, she finds a community that gives her something the outside world can’t, a vision of a different future.”
The play is being put on by theatre production company COGGIA and will debut at Edinburgh venue Iron Belly, part of Underbelly Cowgate, on 5th August. Daily performances will take place until 30th August, with the exception of 18th August.
The Late Utopians marks COGGIA’s return to Underbelly, following the company’s 2025 Fringe production This Blighted Star , which also ran at the venue.
